Everything on in Jávea

The Royal British Legion has a strong presence on the Costa Blanca. Torrevieja's branch marks both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, the second with a parade led by pipes and drums; the Jávea branch gathers at the Fishermen's Church in the port; and the small chapel at Mil Palmeras, south of Torrevieja, has drawn hundreds of people over the years. Here is every service we know of on the Costa Blanca, grouped by town and in date order.

Remembrance Sunday falls on the second Sunday in November, and Armistice Day is always 11 November. Spain's British and Commonwealth communities mark both, with Royal British Legion branches, churches and veterans' associations holding services, parading standards and laying wreaths. Everyone is welcome at the public services, whatever their nationality and whether or not they have a military connection.

Local arrangements are often published only in the last few days and can change, so check the organiser's page for the time and place before you travel. We add services to this guide as they're confirmed.

Good to know

When is Remembrance Sunday?

It's the second Sunday in November. Armistice Day is always 11 November, with a two-minute silence at 11:00. Spain is an hour ahead of the UK, so the silence at the Cenotaph in London falls at 12:00 on the Costa Blanca.

Can anyone go to a Remembrance service on the Costa Blanca?

Yes. Public services are open to everyone, including veterans, families, residents and visitors, and you don't need to be British or have a military connection. If an event is by invitation or for members only, the listing says so.

What happens at a Remembrance service?

Most include standards on parade, the Last Post, a two-minute silence, Reveille and the laying of wreaths, with prayers or readings. Many are followed by a lunch or social gathering organised by the local branch.

Where can I get a poppy in Spain?

Royal British Legion branches run the Poppy Appeal from the third week of October until Remembrance Sunday, so the services and fundraising events on this page are a good place to find one. Your nearest branch can tell you about other collection points.

How do I add our Remembrance service to this guide?

List it free. Branches, churches and associations are all welcome. Once it's checked, it appears on this guide and on the town's What's On page.
